It’s the minute and a half version of the video trailer for my new book ICE COLD, produced by filmmakers Bruno Tore and Jonathan Laurence. Check it out!

Love it, Tess! Can’t wait to read the book!

    Did you write the script?

I have a very old friend with a video production company in Lexington, Ky who is going to help me with the trailer for Pocket-47. I’m working on a script, finding it a little difficult to boil the story down to a few images. Any pointers?

Jude, writing book trailer scripts really forces you to think differently. So much can be conveyed visually rather than with words (which is how we book writers work) so you have to adjust. You needn’t have a lot of captions or dialogue going on, but should work with images instead. I was lucky enough to work with two young filmmakers who shot all the footage, with two local actors.

My script pretty much consisted of a series of images: girl running through snow. Hand emerging from ice. Room with abandoned meal on table, etc. And I suggested some captions they could use. But they did it all from there — the filming, the music, and the editing.

Thanks, Tess. You’re right–I need to work more with the visual and cut some of the words.
