I have read somewhere that a ‘mental exercise’ would help keep Alzheimer’s disease at bay. I would like to think that creative writing is a good mental exercise.

Oh yes, Tess! You are so right in saying a writer’s personality shouldn’t be judged by the books he writes. I kind’a feel offended for you that some think you have a foul mouth and say all sorts of bad stuff against you.

I hate to say this but maybe I too have been a cynic and also thought of you as a creepy person. Now that I think about it, I say writers in your genre are the most brilliant. To be able to weave intricacies such as those found in your books, while conveying information and emotions at the same time you’re bringing the reader toward a suspenseful climax, that is just overwhelmingly exceptional!

Very interesting topic I must say!

I think that writers do reveal a lot about themselves through their books. It would be hard for not to? But this doesnÂ´t mean that a certan character or book would be like the author. IÂ´m sure it much more complicated and subtle thing than that.

And about the alzheimer and writing… Interesting! But it really makes sence.

Silly people, dominatrix are for kids.
Did anyone ever read or listen to Dr. Ruth Westheimer? She tells the story of how she got interested in being a sex therapist. In one of her book (I do not recall the name), she inserted her own tale of her wedding night jitters and how she actually read a sex manual before she and her husband…you know. Now, if Dr. Ruth wore a dominatrix outfit…try to get THAT image out of your head.

Double EEEEK! Now Dave Barry in a dominatrix outfit – maybe.

Thanks for this post, it puts things more in perspective for me. Which is funny because I’m marketing my memoir, which is the real me, even if it’s about my parents.

I can vouch for some pretty scary people in the romance world. There was this one lady, about 100 yrs old, tiny, white haired, gentle voice, sweetest thing, to look at and listen to… until she started sharing the story she wrote…

A dominatrix outfit would be too tame for her story.

I’m not even published and I’ve had to deal with this already. My novel is literary, but I write a lot of short stories too, and some can be a little out there. People (ie. friends and family) will say, “Where did this come from? This isn’t like you.” Exactly, it’s not. Stephen King doesn’t sit at home dreaming of flesh-eating frogs that fall from the sky like rain (actually one of his short stories!). I’ve found that most non-creative people don’t understand that about us. (I have an artist friend who understandsâ€”most of the time!)

Is it bad that when you said “And thriller novelists are expected to show up in black leather. (Which explains why so many of them do.)”, I immediately pictured Steve Berry in a dominatrix outfit?
