Readers: help name that TV show!
Wednesday, Dec 9th, 2009 @ 05:54 pm
“Rizzoli” is the working title of the pilot TV show that’s now in production. But it’s not the final title, and no one has yet come up with a catchy alternative. I myself am hoping it will be “Rizzoli and Isles,” in the spirit of “Cagney and Lacey.”
Do you readers have any ideas? I’d love to hear them!
Rizzoli and Isles: Busting Boston
Rizzoli and Isles works for me!
I’ve been catching up on your blog – exciting times! Thanks for sharing.
“Rizzoli & Isles” is better than the title “Rizzoli”.
CSI: Boston?
(I kid)
“Queen of the Dead”
“Rizzoli & Isles” sounds like a firm of lawyers and too much like so many other show titles.
In the absence of something really catchy “Rizzoli” fits the bill for me. Is Maura Isles going to play a big part in the production? I thought the wonderful Jane Rizzoli was going to take centre stage – a strong but vulnerable woman trying to juggle a demanding job with running a home at the same time.
Hopefully, we will see “Maura” aired at a later date.
Whatever – good luck with it Tess.
Best wishes – Gordon
What about “Tess” ?
And while I’m writing it down I think “Tess’ Isles” is even better: it says something about both writer and main person while it remains a bit mysterious.
“Rizzoli and Isles†has a much better ring to it.
What about something like, “Boston Homicide”? It doesn’t revolve around the character, but it does give an idea of the show.
How about:
The Maine Murders?
i like kelsey’s “boston homicide”. i like rizzoli too. i really can’t wait for this to air!!!!!! SO EXCITING!
I’m keeping track of all these suggestions. Getting some really interesting ones!
“Dead Rising”? As in rising from the dead to tell the truth?
Sounds more like a horror movie now
May be “Boston: Against All Evil”? I think strong women conquering evil is the main idea of the series.
Boston Homicide sounds nice. Or then maybe something with “hunting”? Since you wrote (I think it was in The Apprentice) something about the killer being a hunter for victims, but also Rizzoli is a hunter for the bad guys. Too bad there was already a show named “Hunter” once…
so… “Boston Hunting” maybe? Or “The Hunted” or “Thrill of the Hunt”?
“Isles and Rizzoli: Postmortem” because you like to focus on the aftermath of crimes rather than the crime itself.
I think that maybe something like “The Dead Do Talk in Boston”
Morgue & Mindy
Sorry
Morgue & Maura
Rizzoli & Isles… or Isles & Rizzoli it does not matter. Both titles sound boring. Sorry but this is my opinion. A TV-show should have a catchy title.
“Queens of the dead” sounds more interesting. I would tune in for that.:) Ok, i will tune in anyway, cos it’s a Tess Gerritsen show.
I like the Busting Boston one. It’s got a ring to it and it’s basically what they’re doing, teamin up to bust Boston crimes

hey hey, i like Isles and Rizzoli but it’s just not sitting right with me. The story revolves around the victims without them there is nothing its like Maura says its the dead that need their stories heard. How about Dead Trace or Tracking Death hmm no they sound a tad emo… Just Rizzoli doesn’t say much or it doesn’t say enough. One of the things I love from the books are the titles from something as simple as Surgeon it strikes fear such a simple word an honest word is something everyone has a deep fear of. The title to the series needs to be something bold striking something that tells you gruesome crimes ensues … Facing Death ?
Hello Tess!
I love the series and I had a thought about the show title. “Cause Of Death”, Boston:COD, or maybe BeanTown: COD.
Whatever its name, I’m sure it’s going to be outstanding. Keep writing, dreaming and creating.
All love,
michelangelo
What about Unsub? It puts the emphasis on the bad guys instead of the protagonist(s) or the victims, but it’s a buzz word, it’s easy to spell and pronounce, and rolls of the tongue easier than Rizzoli & Isles, I think.
Although I love the name Rizzoli, I think a show named after the character would need a shorter name… like Castle and Matlock are both 2 syllables, and Chuck is only 1, even “Cagney and Lacey” were both 2 syllable names (also see Mork & Mindy, and Laverne & Shirley).
My girlfriend says; ‘Jane Rizzoli’. Personally, I like it a lot.
I hope you go with something that keeps both Jane and Maura as frontrunners. I love all your books in the series, but the first few that had Maura front and center were my favs. I get that Jane is a badass female cop trying to prove she can be one of the guys, but I feel it’s been done before. Keeping a balance between both Jane and Maura will be more exciting and fresh for the viewers, I think. Either way, I’m going to be watching it bc I love your books!
I love how TNT handles their series (like The Closer and Saving Grace… see what I mean about the tough, badass female cop thing, though?) and I think it’s the best network to get your show on. Congrats with everything!!
My pick would be Boston Homicide
Hmmmmm…..
How about “The Rizzoli/Isles Cases” or “The Rizzoli/Isles Files” maybe “The Rizzoli/Isles Murders” “The Rizzoli/Isles Mysteries” (I seem to be stuck in a pattern here). Well, whatever the title, I can’t wait for it!
Peace & Love,
Gary
I’m loving all these suggestions! If the show were focused on Maura, I’d definitely go for “Queen of the Dead.” In fact, that really should be a title for one of my books…
And “Unsub” is a natural for a tv show!
Until recently, I would have suggested ‘Silent Witness’, until I had it pointed out to me that this title was already taken by a similar kind of show in the UK (damn). Alternatively, I have been considering ‘Watching the dead’ or ‘Reading the Dead’.
‘Unknown or Unidentified Subject’ or its acronym (unsub) is, so far, my most favoured title.
Keep us guessing Tess; thanks for all your hard work.
Matt (from New Zealand).
Matt, “Silent Witness” was a favorite of mine along with “Touching Evil”. BBC has some great mystery shows.
Tess, How about “Darkness Bleeding”? Too dark? “Descent into . . . madness, chaos, “? or just “Maelstrom”? You’ve got the M for murder and then the utter chaos that follows in it’s wake.
Whatever you call it, can’t wait to see it!
I think ‘Postmortem’ would be nice. Short, simple, easy to remember, but still not boring.
I also really like ‘Silent Witness’.. but unfortunately that’s already a show.
Or maybe ‘Scarred’? it’s also on the cover of the Apprentice.
Jane and Maura are both scarred by their jobs, and their victims are also scarred.
can’t think of anything else rightnow. but whatever the title, I know I’ll love the show!!
The Gerritsen Files. But whatever it’s called – I’m watching! And I don’t even watch TV!
I think the name of the directory should have: Rizzoli&Isles Adventure’s:)
